Half Marathon Training Wrap Up {Week 1}

Half marathon training for the Unite Half started last Monday.  I was sooooooo excited to start, but ended up hurting my knee the very first run.  After several days of sulking, I decided I’m going to keep moving and working out to the best of my ability (even if I’m not running) so that I’m as trained as I can possibly be for this race.  I know I have the mental ability to run the distance.  Now I just need my body to cooperate.  Luckily I have 12 weeks to get my knee back in shape. I usually prefer to do my workout wrap ups on Wednesdays, but I thought it would be best to move them over to Mondays since my half marathon training schedule is Monday through Sunday.  Week one was a MAJOR bust, but lets wrap it anyway:

3 miles easy.  It started off okay.  I’m not really a morning runner, but it was nice to get out early and go. Unfortunately, my knee started hurting around the halfway mark and I had to slow down quite a bit.

Today was supposed to be a 1 mile warm up, with a 2 x 1 mile tempo run (.25-mile recovery), followed by a 1 mile cool down.  I did the first mile on the treadmill, but as soon as I bumped up my speed to begin the tempo pace, my knee exploded in pain.  It was like a big burst of pain and then heat radiated off the initial point of pain.  I immediately stopped running and stretched.  I also spent the rest of the day limping. 🙁

Spent $20 on KT Tape.  I kind of suck at applying it, but I do love the pink.  And dude!  It really stays on.

Thursday-Saturday, January 15-17, 2015
Moping.  Lots of moping and bitchiness.

Sunday, January 18, 2015
I applied my next round of KT Tape.  (I was thinking I might try to go for a run, but it was really bad icy rain.  Nope.)

I also decided that I need more yoga in my life and gave this Yoga Practice for Runners sequence a try.  It was glorious and will be adding this in to my routine.

4.48 miles of running
1 twenty minute yoga session

I’m going to try an easy run today to see how my knee is feeling.  Also, no more moping!  I swear.
