DIY To Go… Black Out Poetry {Self Directed Programs}

Display PictureI’m always on the lookout for a good self directed program. I get especially excited when I come up with an idea for my DIY To Go display. {See Paint Sample Notebooks and Chevron Friendship Bracelets.} Today I set up Black Out Poetry and I’m hoping the teens will love it as much as I do!

Supplies:
-Discarded library books {you need to carefully rip out pages}
-Sharpies
-Instructions
-A container to put everything in {I use sandwich baggies}
-A basket of miscellaneous supplies {scissors, glue sticks, card stock, etc}

Black Out Poetry

1. Have the teens read the page they were given.
2. Box out the words that they want to use for their poems.
3. Black out everything except the chosen words.
4. Glue to card stock {if so desired}
5. Admire your awesome poem.

And that’s about it! I have all of my templates in Dropbox and you can access them here. Please fee free to use this at your library and let me know how it goes.

Thanks for stopping by…

  1. Love the idea since I actually did a blackout poetry poetry project for my teens as part of summer reading activities. Re the DIY, are you giving away the glue sticks, Sharpies? Or, are they doing these projects at the library? Thanks!
