Weekly Workout Wrap Up

gym-workout-motivational-quotesI mentioned in Saturday’s post that my fitness took a major dive when I started my new job in August. I tried to get back on track during the holidays by taking part in the #RWRunStreak, but ended up have to take Cipro {an antibiotic} for an infection. Turns out you can’t do any strenuous activity {read: run} while taking Cipro because one of the side effects of the drug is tendon rippage.

I ended up putting my running on the back burner for the rest of the holiday season, but started the New Year with a fire in my belly and a plan of attack. Which, brings me to what I’m currently doing for running in the New Year:

1.I joined local running group Mean Guy Running’s January 2016 Challenge: Beat the Streak. From Mean Guy Running’s website:

Here’s a new twist to a running challenge. Go STREAKING!

This challenge will begin on January 1st and run through January 31st. On the first day you run, you earn one point. If you run the next day, you earn two points for that day. A third day in a row, three points for that day. This continues until your streak ends. You can start and stop as many streaks through the 31 days. (If you run more than once a day, it does not count as two separate runs but the mileage will be combined.) Mileage will play a factor, but will be divided by 10. This may serve as a tiebreaker if needed.

The person with the most points and closest to the average will win! MEAN GUY running members will win $75 to the running store of their choice while non-members will earn $50.

2. I’m running the year with an awesome mom team! That’s right. Four moms. 366 days. 2016 Child Free Miles. {Team #2016CFM} Special thanks to Sara from Life Between the Miles for being on my team.

3. My BIG goal: I want to run 1,000 miles in one year. It ends up being a little under 3 miles a day. Right now I’m feeling pretty great and positive, but I know {trust me I know} injuries happen, so I’m not going to be devastated if my knees don’t let this happen.

Now that you all are caught up with what I want to do, let me show you what I’ve actually done. 🙂

Friday, January 1, 2016 12362568_485773868277551_179426297_n3 mile run on the first day of the New Year. I also downloaded a new running app for my Apple Watch. Jury’s still out on this app, but I love the look of it, and I love the idea of having all of my runs stored in one place.

Sunday, January 3, 2016 1517207_1716995538519506_1466239361_n2 mile run. Also, I love running once the sun goes down.

Monday, January 4, 2016 1172108_958991344207963_7806406_n3 miles. Also, this is the start of a couple of VERY COLD days. Brrrrr!

Tuesday, January 5, 2016 10249394_1099367123427134_1316012878_n3 mile run. And I bough that sexy little neck scarf from Walmart to help me keep my face from falling off in the cold.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016 12446121_430151827179591_2041316533_n3 mile run. Please note: I woke up early for this…. and it was awful. Like running through cold peanut butter.

Thursday, January 7, 2016 12501692_1673398449594463_1173534288_n3 mile run while Dax was in school, but before I had to head off to work. Oh and hiiiiii husband. He was taking out the trash right as I finished, so I made him selfie {#usies} with me.

12407322_1659912357630337_523913765_n3 glorious warm miles. I look like a florescent rainbow here. Seriously though, I wish I could run in this weather all the time.

Sunday, January 10, 2016

Unintentional rest day. {I should have posted a pic of my sad face.} I ended up at Urgent Care with an inner ear infection. I’ve never had an inner ear infection before and was terrified. The dizziness and vertigo was out of this world and it took Dave two tries to get me to Urgent Care. {Attempt one ended with me crying my eyes out and freaking out as soon as the car started to move.} I’m currently on 4 different prescriptions to try to kick this out of my system. So, I’m thinking no running today or tomorrow. Be smarter, Christen. That’s my plan.

26 miles in the last 10 days!

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.
